AutoCAD Text Over Hatch Disappears

by Tom M
(San Clemente, CA)

I've created my (solid pattern) hatch in model space.

When I'm in paper space and drag text over the hatch pattern, the text disappears.

I've tried commands:

'Bring to Front'

'Bring over Objects'

Is there a toggle, or something that can make the text visible?

Thanks for your help.

A. Hi Tom,

We do a lot of landscape drawings that requires an enormous amount of hatching; so I feel your pain.

One trick I find that works well is to always send the hatching to back.

TOOLS > DISPLAY ORDER > SEND TO BACK

If you select your hatch pattern and send it to the back, all other objects should be above the pattern.

This also helps bring the lines around the hatching to the front so they stand out.

When in Paper Space, regenerate the drawing with the Viewport active and see if that updates the text problem.

Hope this helps.

More Text Disappears...
by: Anonymous

Thanks for taking the time to respond to my dilemma.

I hope I can also do the same for someone on the site.

Unfortunately, the text still disappears where it goes over the hatch after trying your suggestion.

Now, instead of placing text in paper space, I've added the text in model space over the hatch and it is visible, so I guess I'll live with this solution.

Thanks again.

Objects dissappear
by: mO

Hi Tom,

I know EXACTLY what you mean. I also have the same problem. Tried opening the file on earlier versions, on different PC's and it does the same thing.

Apologies for a delayed post but did you find a possible solution other than putting the text in Modelspace?

Thanks!

Text Over Hatch Disappears
by: Tom M

Mo,

Thanks for checking in on this.
I was unable to come up with a fix for my text in paper space that was disappearing over solid hatch in model space. I guess it will remain one of those AutoCAD mysteries.

I ended up changing the text from paper space to model space and then the text became visible.

Here's the process that I used:

While in paper space:
Enter: "chspace"
Select the text you want to move to model space
Press enter
Model space viewport is now active and the text will be in model space. You can move the text to desired location.
Type: "ps" and you will be back in paper space

I receive AutoCAD files from a lot of different engineers, architects and landscape architects with different versions of AutoCAD, so that may be my problem.

Hope this solution is helpful to you.
