AutoCAD Freezing Problem

by Nick
(Toronto, ON Canada)

I have a site plan with various services drawings (waste, electrical, etc.) XREF'd into it.

It opens just fine in AutoCAD 2011, but 2010 and 2009 can't open it (it freezes at 93%).

I have tried Recovery w/XREF's and it still will not open.

The drawing was created in 2010 and all XREF's were created in 2011, but saved as 2007 versions. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Nick

Drawing Freeze Common Problem
by: Jospeh

AutoCAD freezing up like this is a common problem, at least for me anyway.

We've had drawings work fine in 2011, but forget about it when it comes to previous versions, regardless of the version that created them.

I suspect that some of the data was corrupted somewhere, but to nail down the exact reason is a little difficult to do.

Have you tried the EXPORT command? This has worked for us a few times to get a drawing cleaned up to where it will open properly, but not all the time.

It is similar to WBLOCK, except it gets rid of a lot of crap that may be lingering in the file.
