AutoCAD Crash Related to Text

AutoCAD 7 and Widows XP

I have a series of simple wiring diagram drawings dating back to 1999.

The latest was revised in 2006. Now all, though different files, cause AutoCAD to crash immediately when any text manipulation is attempted.

This applies to commands ED, DTEXT and MTEXT. I have regenerated, saved as a block, saved as a Wblock, all with the same instant crash!

Any suggestions?

anytime i am experianceing issues with my drawing I do a purge (simply type this and enter. this will purge the drawing from anything not being used that is otherwise just taking us space and bogging the drawing down) and then audit (also, type and enter. this command scans the drawing for errors and fixes them). you can also try drawing cleanup under the map menu, tools, drawing cleanup.

Before opening the file, try to 'recover' It is a deeper version of Audit by scanning the database of the drawing and fixes machine codes.
